This desk came from the Universities Norlin Library and in good condition for it's age. See provenance and condition below. This desk was appraised last year for $7500.00. Provenance: The Wooten Patent Desk was a gift arranged by Dean Graves, the Director of Development, prior to December 16, 1981, from Dr. F. A. “Gus” Garcia. The Garcia Information File has a memo written to Dean Graves acknowledging the gift, as well as a description of the desk. Since the subject line on the memo read “Teller Desk”, I also checked the Henry M. Teller Information File and came up with a thank you letter to Dr. F.A. Garcia, dated December 16, 1981, acknowledging the receipt of the desk with a statement that the legal papers that came in the desk had belonged to Willard Teller (1919). Condition: The desk appears to be a little warped – enough so that the two “wings” do not match up when closed. The bottom of the right wing has some small nails/brads in the trim. There is a distinct possibility that the desk was owned and used by Henry M. Teller, early Colorado attorney, railroad promoter and US senator between 1876–1882 and 1885–1909, and Secretary of the Interior between 1882 and 1885. He was an opponent of the Dawes Act. He may be best known for his Teller Amendment which halted the annexation of Cuba following the Spanish–American War. Although there was no indication in the file that this was so. I've added a copy of the appraisal (see attachment) To view this item please EMAIL me for an appointment. Please read all of the terms and conditions before bidding.
