You are looking at a Varian 400 MHz NMR system with Oxford NMR AS400 Magnet for auction.
We know very little about this unit, or its history. The description below was found within the department chair notes. "It was purchased in early 2018 and we began running it in August 2018. In November of 2018, a Helium deliver was planned, but not executed. Due to this, the magnet had a soft-quench in Spring of 2019. Construction already began on our new lab, so it was decided to not move forward with the equipment. The NMR should be in working order if the magnet can be re-energized. The system should be able to operate with a new magnet. Varian is no longer in the NMR business; a lab that has a Varian system(s ) my benefit of the “whole” package. The magnet is of the best quality, as well as the console, however there are no guarantees that the magnet will re-energize, since no attempt has been made in 4 years." Interested bidders should schedule a site-visit to view item condition in person, prior to bidding. This asset is being sold as-is, where-is with no exceptions. Item is located within an academic building. In order to minimize disruptions to classes, removal of the items must be scheduled with and approved by the Facilities Management contact. Q: If the helium was not delivered, that means it should be a hard quench because It went dry. Can you Please explain. (4/4/23 11:24 AM) A: Good Afternoon, I have included an explanation from one of our Department Chairs below. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if you would like more information. "My "definition" is based on the way the Helium escapes from the magnet. Usually if ½ of the liquid He volume (somewhere between 40 -100 L for most magnets) boils off and be violently ejected from the He vent on top of the magnet within one minute, I refer to as a hard quench. My understanding that the situation of this magnet quench was very slow/gradual escape of the He over couple of months. A violent boil off never took place. Property may be removed by appointment only and appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance. All items must be removed within ten (10) business days from the time and date of the close of the auction. The Buyer will make all arrangements and perform all work necessary, including packing, loading and transportation of the property. No Assistance will be provided. Bidders will be locked unless a prior arrangement has been made for any item not removed within the ten (10) business days allowed and stated on the Buyer's Certificate.
