The University of Washington Surplus Property program is proud to offer this antique Barrister Bookshelf by Macey Furniture Co. This bookcase by Macey is in astounding vintage condition, with just a few scrapes and scratches. The shelf features a beautiful warm finish, glass doors, base, and top. This piece is a quintessential “elastic bookcase” by Macey. The elastic bookcase is a modular design that stacks and unstacks to create flexible storage for books and papers. The popularity of this style of case among lawyers earned it the “barrister bookcase” moniker.
Macey Furniture Co. merged with Globe-Wernicke in 1905, and this bookcase is emblematic of quality that the Globe-Wernicke name evokes. It boasts bronze colored pulls, metal banding details, and doors that glide smoothly on saw-tooth wheels. See photos for more condition notes.
This piece is a true stunner—it would be a sophisticated show stopper in any home or office.
