The tower is approx. 120 feet tall with a watch house on top, It is constructed of heavy duty galvanized angle steel and is mounted on concrete. This tower was placed where it is now in 1949. Each step is made of oak wood and is bolted in place to steel runners. The tower and the steps as to my knowledge are all original. At the top of the tower is a cab with oak flooring. Most of the steps are rotten and most likely the steps would have to be replaced, and possible the flooring. I don’t believe anyone has walk up it in sometime. The tower itself is in tack, as it was in 1949. Tower Removal: Please provide all equipment, tools and personnel to Completely remove the tower and its components. Site Location: From Waycross take US 1 North through Dixie Union. Continue north on US 1 and when you pass Bennett’s Tractor Service, Take the 1st paved road to the left, which is Bickley Road. Travel 8.5 Miles from US 1 on Bickley Road and the fire tower will be on the left In a clear-cut area just off of the pavement. The tower is located 1.3 miles west of the Bickley Fire Station and 0.8 miles from the intersection of Bickley Road and Old Nichols Highway
